Marc Ribot - Asmodeus Book of Angels 7 (Tzadik) : 7th installment from the 2nd Masada Book. The phenomenon Marc Ribot rips through with jangling guitars & distortion and heavy melodies. Also ordered this DVD called The Lost String. Can’t wait.

Metropolitan Jazz Affair - Bird of Spring (Infracom!) : Cool nujazz & lounge album by MJA. Very good compositions that mix popular songwriting with jazz. Past review on undomondo

Punkt - Crime Scenes (Jazzland) : The Norwegian supergroup Punkt featuring the works of artists Arve Henriksen, David Sylvian, Eivind Aarset, Nils Petter Molvær seems to be an offshoot of Punkt festivals & Labels. This is a criminally underrated album with touches of electronic jazz & abstract ambience & clicks.

If you’re wondering where on earth shows #33-38 are, don’t! #39 was a special one where I set out to do an alternative show from christmas songs but failed. The first part begins with some great christmas tunes, goes into some oldschool hiphop & booty bass and finally ends with a superb Turkish folk jazz piece, which I found through 45devir.net thanks to our reader Henri!. Marbert Rocel - Speed Emotions (Compost): Haven’t seen this album mentioned anywhere, German electropop band Marbert Rocel’s debut shone among hundreds of cliche electronic pop albums. Good songwriting and happy moods.

Adjágas - Adjágas (Ever Records): Sami Yoiksters Adjágas with a folk album full of folk tales and chanting. Past review on undomondo.

Wahoo - Take It Personal (Fine Records): Berlin based Wahoo is euro house veterans George Levin and Dixon. Their debut album includes their past hit “Make ‘em shake it” alongside lots of hip club/dance tunes. Euro-hipness at its best.

The Focus Group - We’re all Pan’s people (Ghost Box) : The lovely UK label Ghost Box, which gave us another topnotch Focus Group album and the fantasticBelbury Poly album last year, strikes once again. I totally love everything The Focus Group produces. Very disoriented short BBC Radiophonics type of retro non-music.

Elegi - Sistereis (Miasmah) : Released on Miasmah, one of the foremost netlabels, Sistereis is a dark & haunting atmospheric ambient album with minimal strings and drones. Sale on Boomkat, don’t miss it.

Roam the Hello Clouds - Near Misses (~scape) : Dreamlike ambient electronic jazz from Triosk & Prefuse 73 drummer Lawrence Pike, trumpetist Phil Slater and laptop-man Dave Miller from Pivot.

Eric Malmberg - Verklighet och beat (Häpna) : Ex member of Sagor & Swing on Häpna, with a terrific album. I haven’t had enough time to listen to this one, else it would have rated higher I guess. Bittersweet, instrumental moog synth stuff with a vast array of influences like 70’s psychedelia.

What’s up boys and girls, this year I’m a little bit faster in compiling the best of list (although still one of the last to do so according to Largehearted Boy’s best of lists compilation.)

2007 was very very lucrative for new music and even a top 50 list isn’t enough to cover the noteworthy albums. I’ll publish the top 50 list now and gradually go through them in the coming days with an mp3 for every album, till the end of this year.

As always my subjective rating algorithm is mostly based on inventiveness with respect to other artists & bands + personal taste. I’ve listened to a lot of experimental & improv stuff as well, but as I look back they are mostly not distinctive or well-formed enough to end in a top 50 list, but that doesn’t make them any less good! Anyways please bear with us through the uploading process !
